JACKSON — Corinthian Sanders, a 23-year-old Jackson native, has announced his intent to run for Rep. Kimberly Campbell’s House seat.
He ran against Campbell last August and pulled 10.5 percent of the district’s vote. He says he did not campaign in that election, but only put his name on the ballot. Sanders, who lives in Pocahontas, announced he was running on his Facebook page and thanked Rep. Campbell for her service in a video.
“We’ve got to make sure that our voices are heard, we’ve got to make sure that we are well-represented at the state capital, I want to lead that path and serve you,” Sanders said in the video.
Sanders is a graduate of Callaway High School and is working on his degrees in urban development and hospitality from the University of Phoenix. After high school, Sanders participated in the Walt Disney professional management program for almost four years. He is the founder and chairman of the Mississippi Project and works as a coordinator for Hilton Worldwide.
He joins Synarus Green and Debra Hendricks Gibbs so far in the race. Her husband, attorney Robert Gibbs, announced her candidacy on his Facebook page today: “My wife of 27 years has decided to run for the Legislative seat being vacated by the Honorable Kimberly Campbell. We are asking for your prayer and support as she makes her first run for public office.” Her Facebook page lists her as the managing partner at Gibbs Travis law firm, where her husband also works.
