City Supports Several Bills

The city of Jackson will support several bills in the Legislature this session. Roosevelt Daniels, city policy director, is expected to present the following items this morning at a City Council Legislative Committee meeting.

Chris Mims, city communications director, told the Jackson Free Press last week that the following legislative items are of interest to the city.

• The city supports requiring junkyards to track VIN numbers from vehicles brought to their sites. These records, similar to what pawn brokers keep, would be accessible to police when investigating stolen vehicles.

• City officials and the Jackson Police Department would like the state to enact an attempted murder category. Right now, Mississippi has no such classification.

• The city supports certain transportation bills that would provide financial help in rebuilding roads.

Mims said it is possible the city will support more bills later in the session. JFP will report on those additions or other changes as they happen.
