Ole Miss was on a three-game losing streak to Mississippi State at home in C. M. "Tad" Smith Coliseum. The Rebels were on a six-game losing streak overall to their in-state rival Bulldogs.

Wednesday night, Jan. 18, the Rebels finally broke their losing streak with a 75-68 victory. Ole Miss led from start to finish against the Bulldogs.

Former Provine High School star Jarvis Summers had one of the best games of his freshman career. Summers scored 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field.

He made two of the Rebels' four three-point shoots and dished out five assists, a new high for the team. Early in the game, Summers hit a three-point shot to give the Rebels a 7-1 lead.

He hit his second three-point shot to give Ole Miss a 10-3 lead in the first half. At the half, Ole Miss led 38-33.

Mississippi State attempted a comeback and had cut the Rebels lead to 55-51. Summers had an assist on a Nick Williams jumper to stretch the lead to 57-51.

Summers would hit a layup and a jumper for Ole Miss to help keep the lead at 61-56. The Rebels extended their run on a Murphy Holloway dunk that Summers assisted on to make it a 63-56 lead.

The Bulldogs would get the Rebels lead down to three later, but they never really threatened to take the lead. Nearly every time Ole Miss needed a big play, Summers had a hand in it.

Summers was named first team All-State and Metro Player of the year his senior season after leading Provine to a 25-3 record.

ESPN had Summers as the 34th point guard in the country and scout.com listed him as 23rd point guard nationally. He averaged 20 points, eight assists and five rebounds his senior season.

Summers played in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game and helped Provine reach the state championship game in each of his first three seasons.

So far for his freshman season, Summers is averaging 10 points, two rebounds and three assists.
