Jackson-based EastGroup Properties has been enjoying increased revenue and profit in its third quarter as an increasing number of tenants rent industrial space from the company.

EastGroup Properties, Inc., is an equity real estate investment trust that specializes in development, acquisition and operation of industrial properties, especially in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California and North Carolina.

EastGroup announced that it is building five new warehouses projected to cost $36.9 million, which brings its development program to a total of 14 buildings with projected costs of $91.4 million. The timeline for the project has not been released.

The vast majority—96.3 percent—of the company's buildings were leased at the quarter's end, the highest level since the third quarter of 2007.

Company officials said in a statement that quarterly profit rose 24 percent to $8.4 million in the three months that ended Sept. 30, up from $6.8 million in 2012's third quarter. Quarterly revenue rose 10 percent to $51.3 million.

EastGroup borrowed $100 million in a private placement in August 2013.
