UMMC Named to Most-Wired List

The University of Mississippi Medical Center recently made Hospitals & Health Networks' list of "Most Wired" health-care facilities for 2013. H&HN is the flagship publication of the American Hospital Association.

Selections for the listing are based on an industry-standard benchmark study that measures the level of information technology a given facility possesses. The study is used to help hospital and health-system leaders map their IT strategic plans.

UMMC was one of four health-care institutions in Mississippi to receive the recognition. The others included St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi Health Services in Tupelo and Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.

The complete "Most Wired" list is available at H&HN's website.

St. Dominic's Opens Cancer Boutique

St. Dominic Hospital recently opened a boutique dedicated to helping cancer patients and survivors look and feel their best before, during and after cancer treatment. St. Dominic's Cancer Boutique is the first of its kind in the Jackson area, and offers products and services for minimizing the effects of cancer therapy.

The boutique offers surgical garments, mastectomy bras, mastectomy forms and swimwear, lymphedema sleeves, head scarves and wraps, DermaQol Skincare, wicking garments for night sweats, and specialty gift items, as well as one-on-one care for mastectomy patients that includes a private fitting room and mastectomy fitter.

"The idea to open a cancer boutique came to me 10 months ago after I had a personal experience with someone who had a mastectomy," Debbie Jansen, director of retail services at St. Dominic's, said in a press release. "I realized there was a tremendous need in our market for a location where women would be able to go for all their mastectomy needs in a peaceful, cozy setting."

St. Dominic's Cancer Boutique is located on the first floor of St. Dominic's West Tower inside the Spa at St. Dominic's (969 Lakeland Dr., 601-200-2000). The boutique is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 601-200-5111.
