True to Our Authentic Selves-Women and Radio

Who knew that Gloria and Jane would create a media that my husband adores? Not those tauting the "feminazi" rhetoric for sure. He came home a few weeks ago raving over a station he's been listening to, and he thinks I'll love it too. Well, duh. I've been listening online since July, but now I can listen on 780 AM in the car. I have to say he's preferring this talk radio to the usual agenda-driven choices.

Greenstone Media's name comes from an Alice Walker story called "Finding the Greenstone" that "stays lit only as long as the owner is true to his or her self." Yes, it's women's talk radio, but I know Gloria is looking for the day that we don't identify women's anything as women's. It is what it is, and Gloria's right.

Thus far, Lisa Birnbach's show is my favorite. She can talk politics AND everyday life. Imagine that! And of course, Jill Conner Browne as a regular guest every other Tuesday doesn't hurt either since she is the woman who taught me, and upteen thousand other women across the world, that one can have an opinion and be a woman all at the same time.

I'm also loving that it's talk radio not focused on conflict, but at the same time does discuss hard-hitting issues. Lisa went from the 2004 presidential polls to the Savannah ghost tours this morning. It's like reading the news section and style section all at once.

Listen online or 780 AM in the Jackson area.
