Barbara Dunn's Reign of Copy Fee Terror Over?
By R.L. NaveFor about a year, maybe longer, the state court system has slowly been rolling out news of electronic filing coming to certain counties.
Now, it's finally Hinds County's turn.
Starting on Oct. 1, Hinds Circuit Court and Hinds County Court starts accepting voluntary electronic filing of court documents in civil cases on Oct. 1. Senior Circuit Judge Tomie Green signed the order. E-filing will become mandatory on Nov. 1 in civil cases, a press release states.
“The addition of Hinds Circuit and County Courts to the Mississippi Electronic Courts system marks a milestone in our efforts to implement a unified, statewide e-filing system for the judiciary. The state’s most populous county, the home of our capital city and the seat of state government, is an essential component of a unified records system," said Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. said in a statement.
Hinds County Circuit Clerk Barbara Dunn said in the statement that "trying to make this as simple as possible."
This is huge for members of the public and the press.
Dunn's office charges $1.00 PER FREAKING PAGE for copies.
The state e-filing system is similar to the PACER system the federal courts use, which charges a dime per page.

Will Lumumba Get a Boost from Women?
By R.L. NaveFor the second time in two days, Chokwe A. Lumumba received a show of support for his stated commitment to women's issues.
Yesterday, attorney Regina Quinn, who competed in the April 8 special election, endorsed Lumumba's candidacy. She said she met with Lumumba and his rival, Ward 6 Councilman Tony Yarber, and felt that Lumumba had a deeper understanding of challenges women face. Gender-based pay inequity, she said, hurts families and, ultimately, the economy. Lumumba has proposed giving female city workers equal pay for equal work.
Lumumba said he would look to Ms. Quinn as an advisor and said he wanted women to have the same opportunities for city jobs, including top appointments.
Today, another group of women also announced their support of Lumumba.
"You can't possibly (support) a people's platform if you're not ready to run on a women's platform," he said today.
He credited his late mother, Nubia, with helping shape his attitudes toward women.
"If you knew my mother, you would know where my fire truly comes from," he said.

CeeLo Brought a Zu
By micah_smithAmidst the general political chaos of the presidential primaries and visits from Bill Clinton and Donald "Drumpf" Trump, Grammy Award winner CeeLo Green also made a stop in the city of Jackson. As is usually the case with the eccentric singer and songwriter, he didn't come alone.
Wherever Green pops up, whether it's a TV appearance or an interview, his Yorkshire terrier, Harrison Zulander, or "Zu" for short, is usually tagging along and looking simultaneously nonplussed and adorable. He even came to Jackson for Green's performance at Hal & Mal's on Tuesday, March 8.
Zu isn't just a tag-along trophy pet, however. When not eliciting smiles from famous folk such as Ashanti, Steve Aoki and Blake Shelton, he's a social-media socialite, with more than 1,400 followers on his Instagram and another 254 followers on his Twitter.
The Yorkie is also a spokes-puppy and model for Los Angeles-based Dogs of Glamour. Zu is featured prominently on the website for the high-end canine accessories brand, rocking pieces from the Dogs of Glamour product line, such as jackets, t-shirts and classy carrier bags.
Oh, and if anyone was curious, Zu is available for "speaking" engagements.

Gov. Bryant: We Don't Want 'Obamacare Lite'
By adreherGov. Phil Bryant called out Congress today, saying that the American Health Care Act resembles Obamacare too closely.
In a Facebook post, Bryant cited the Heritage Foundation's concerns on the new American Health Care Act, which support his stance that the new plan is "Obamacare Lite." (The Heritage Foundation gave Gov. Bryant an award last year for passing House Bill 1523, which was blocked in court before it went into affect.) Bryant's post says he will be working with Mississippi's congressmen in the coming days to ensure that Republicans "end Obamacare once and for all."
"Republican voters who gave majorities to both chambers and delivered the White House do not want Obamacare Lite," Bryant's Facebook post says. "I know it takes tremendous courage to turn back an entitlement once it is in place. But with $20 trillion in national debt, we best start making some tough decisions."
