Miss. Ballot Set with Cochran as Senate Nominee

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi elections commissioners have approved a November ballot listing Republican Thad Cochran, Democrat Travis Childers and the Reform Party's Shawn O'Hara as U.S. Senate nominees.

Approval came Tuesday while Chris McDaniel's challenge of his Republican primary loss to Cochran is still awaiting trial.

Election commissioners say Mississippi has a tight schedule to send absentee ballots to overseas military voters. The judge overseeing McDaniel's election challenge said last week that he wouldn't block preparations for the general election.

Certified results show Cochran defeated the state senator by 7,667 votes in the June 24 Republican primary runoff. McDaniel is asking the judge to declare him the winner over the six-term incumbent or order a new runoff.

Cochran says McDaniel waited too long to file a challenge. In court papers Tuesday, McDaniel disagrees.
