Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. and city department leaders will answer questions from residents tonight at the Ward 3 community meeting.

Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. announced during the Jackson City Council meeting this afternoon that he was appointing Pieter Teeuwissen as city attorney and Corrine Fox as director of the Department of Planning and Development.

Teeuwissen and Fox have been serving in their respective interim roles until the mayor's announcement during the Monday budget meeting.

"Both of these individuals have a wealth of experience in their respective professions, and I am confident that they will continue to make a tremendous contribution to the City of Jackson and her citizens," Johnson said in a release, adding that he will present both appointees for confirmation at the Nov. 3 Jackson City Council meeting.

Teeuwissen served as the city's chief defense attorney since the departure of former City Attorney Sarah O'Reilly-Evans earlier this year. Johnson recently brought on Fox, a former deputy director of the city's Planning Department, to smooth over business decisions regarding development.

Fox told the Jackson Free press in July that she was not sure she wanted to adopt her interim role in a full-time capacity. Teeuwissen, in comparison, was open about wanting the position of the city's top attorney.

Just in, too: Johnson to move on school appointments. Verbatim: Mayor Johnson Moving to Make School Board Appointments Mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr. announced during the City Council meeting this afternoon that he was working to bring possible School Board appointees to be considered for a City Council vote in mid-November. He also asked for Council input. “As you may recall from the information that was previously submitted to you, Board members representing Wards 1, 2 and 6 are serving under expired terms,” said Mayor Johnson. “Additionally, under the practice of rotating appointments by wards, the next three wards in the rotation would be Wards 4, 7 and 1, but not necessarily in that order. We have started the process of identifying potential appointees, and are asking for your input.” Mayor Johnson provided each council member a form to make recommendations to the School Board for consideration, as well as for other boards and commissions. Council members can also use this from to recommend reappointment of individuals currently on boards and commissions. “We have been talking to several individuals about school board appointments and it is important that we get these appointments taken care of during the coming month in order to take advantage of important School Board training that will be held in December,” said Mayor Johnson.
