Otis Lotus performs May 31 to fundraise for the Animal Rescue League.

The Unbroken Chain Benefit Concert is going to the dogs––or at least, the proceeds are. On May 31, at 7:30 p.m., the Mississippi Animal Rescue League will host the concert fundraiser at Duling Hall (622 Duling Ave.). MARL's annual $900,000 budget is composed entirely of donations, and the Unbroken Chain concert is a major fundraiser for the organization, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the animal shelter.

The Mississippi Animal Rescue League is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals. It is the largest full-service animal-welfare organization in central Mississippi and provides care and medical services for thousands of homeless and unwanted animals, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and birds. The Mississippi Animal Rescue League is an "open admission" shelter, meaning they accept every animal that comes through the door–over 13,000 a year.

Concert host Adam Carrey believes MARL is a worthy cause. He's opening the doors at 6 p.m. for cocktails; local funk-rock band M.O.S.S. performs at 7:30, and Otis Lotus, a local Grateful Dead tribute band, goes on around 8:45 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. They can be purchased at Babalu Tacos and Tapas and Morningbell Records, both at Duling Hall, or online at http://www.ticketmaster.com and http://www.MSARL.org.
