JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A runoff election will fill a vacant seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
Debra Gibbs and Synarus Green are competing to succeed former Rep. Kimberly Campbell of Jackson in House District 72.
Polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday in parts of Hinds and Madison counties.
Campbell, a Democrat, had served since 2008 and stepped down in May to become state director of the AARP. The runoff winner will fill more than three years of a four-year term she started in January.
Special-election candidates run without party labels, but Gibbs and Green are Democrats. Both candidates live in Jackson.
Gibbs is an attorney and previously served on the Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission.
Green is director of policy and intergovernmental affairs for the city of Jackson.
