In a press release, Humana estimated that more than 30,000 residents of Hinds, Rankin and Madison counties don't have health insurance.
To inform the public about the Affordable Care Act, the company will partner with Sal & Mookie's New York Pizza & Ice Cream Joint (565 Taylor St.) March 3 for a Community Day. The event will inform local workers—including service industry employees, restaurant workers, those who work in the municipal and public sectors, and owners of small businesses—about the Affordable Care Act and the healthcare options available on the Health Insurance Marketplace at the ACA website.
The six-month open enrollment period began Oct. 1, 2013, and ends March 31. Humana offers coverage for 40 counties in the state through the Mississippi health insurance exchange.
Humana's Community Day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 3 at Sal & Mookie's (565 Taylor St.). The event is free and open to the public. Call 601-291-7901 for more information.
