Barbour Requests Federal Funds for Storm Recovery

Gov. Haley Barbour will give his annual State of the State address tonight.

Gov. Haley Barbour asked President Barack Obama yesterday to declare Greene, Hinds and Kemper counties as major disaster areas so that residents can have access to federal assistance programs.

"The federal aid will help restore our communities and help our neighbors recover from their losses," Barbour said in a statement. "Our prayers are with the family who lost a loved one and those injured in these destructive storms."

The governor is requesting small business loans, and funds to assist individuals with housing, counseling services, legal services and unemployment assistance, .
