JPD Mourns Officer's Death

The Jackson Police Department is mourning the death of officer Glen Agee who suspect LeTwan Smith allegedly shot Friday night.

Smith fled a patrol vehicle on Highway 18 in Raymond while officers were transporting him to the Hinds County Detention Center on domestic violence charges, WLBT reported Saturday. Agee, 31, chased Smith into a wooded area where the shooting occured. Hinds Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart reported that Agee sustained two gunshot wounds to the face.

Police captured Smith 45 minutes after the shooting. Smith, 24, now faces capital murder charges. The police department is currently investigating the case, and funeral arrangements will be finalized today.

Agee was an officer with JPD for two months. Prior to JPD, he worked as a police officer at Jackson State University.
