The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that the team won't return to Millsaps College in Jackson, where the team held its preseason camp for the last three years. Instead, the Saints will train at the team facility in Metairie, La. First the Saints cut Deuce McAllister and now this.

"We first want to thank the people at Millsaps as well as our fans in Mississippi and Jackson, we had a first rate experience there. Millsaps proved to be a great location and we couldn't have been treated any better. The dynamics and economics have shifted a bit and we have decided that holding training camp at our facility would provide us with enough quality fields to work on, an indoor practice facility in the case of inclement weather as well as access to the technology we have available at our headquarters in Metairie."

Past training camp locations, as reported by the Times-Picayune.

· San Diego, California (1967-69) Cal Western University

· Bowling Green, Ohio (1970) Bowling Green University

· Hattiesburg, Mississippi (1971-73) University of Southern Mississippi

The Saints were here 2-3 years in a row, and how did the city respond? Poorly, piss-poor. This town should have been painted black and gold. There should have been banners, light post signs, receptions, highway signs "This Way to the Saints Camp", billboards, Keys to the City press conferences, and tons of other special events. You could have gotten sponsors to help pull this off, but instead, unless you read the paper, a person would barely recognize that the Saints were here for training camp....

Echoes of the Braves fiasco...a downtown stadium a la Memphis Redbirds could have been awesome. But let's face it, the City cannot even properly account for grant money. No one expects city leadership to suddenly care.
