Book Party to Honor JFP Award Winners

JFP reporter Adam Lynch will sign the new book, "Best Altweekly Writing and Design 2006," at a JFP book/awards party on Friday, June 29, starting at 5 p.m. in the Lemuria.com building, next to Banner Hall. Adam's first-place news stories written in 2005 are republished in the book. We will also celebrate the JFP's latest AAN awards, including first place in feature writing for Brian Johnson's story about Cedric Willis' 12 years in Parchman. Brian will read from that piece as well. You can purchase signed editions of both the 2006 book and the 2005 book, featuring first-place work by Ayana Taylor and Donna Ladd of the JFP. Free admission, and free wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.

Both Cedric Willis and Shirley Beach, who is featured in this week's cover story will be in attendance. Come say hello.

Also join the JFP Saturday night in the Hal & Mal's brewpub for a goodbye karaoke party for managing editor Brian Johnson as he ships off to New Zealand to finish his novel.

At least until 7. More likely 7:30 or later, knowing this crowd. We'll probably drink the wine til they kick us out. So come on over.

Brian's leaving? What up with that? We don't have paper, pen and publishers here? Don't leave Brian, we probably won't find another so-called outsider with your perspective, intellect, education and courage to say what he thinks. You're an excellent writer, too. You presence was helping the situation here as much as that other famous/infamous abolitionist from Kansas in the 19th century. You didn't get "southernized" to the point of pretended blindness and inactivity. Let us know when the book is ready for purchasing. You also helped me get over some of my fear of the Big Apple. If you can go to sleep on the subway I shouldn't be so reluctant to riding on it. I can't be present to wish you goodbye as I will have to be in Indianapolis at the time. As told would say, Cheers.

I meant as Tom would say, Cheers. I can't write anything without obvious errors.

Too bad I am going to miss the reading. I will definitly try to waddle down to Hal and Mal's for the karaoke party. Tonight, have fun for me too. However, don't get too worn out before the karaoke party.

I am doing fine except for the heat. And the waddling gets annoying at times (well all of the time).

Just got back several moments ago. It was GREAT! I got a chance to meet golden eagle (thought you were taller - LOL), Izzy, Adam, Kate Royals, Ronni Mott, Cedric Willis, Shirley Beach...had a great time. I also got to see Todd cry, but I'll let him or Donna explain that one. :-) Brian, I forgot to get your signature. I remembered when I was almost home. Rats. Maybe you can just send me a postcard from New Zealand or something. Don't forget to post some pictures!

Just got back several moments ago. It was GREAT! I got a chance to meet golden eagle (thought you were taller - LOL) Good things come in smaller packages! You also forgot to tell how good-looking I am too! It was nice meeting you, as well as Donna, Todd, Matt, Brian and Adam. I wish I could've stayed for the whole thing, but I'm sure there will be many other events I'll attend.

Well, you looked a'ight. ROTFL! Just kidding. As far as I'm concerned, everyone in the room was good-looking because I don't get out enough to see anyone anyway. :-P
