Delta Democrat Times: Perception of safety essential to development

Jackson mayoral candidates' message holds validity for Greenville, as well

The Delta Democrat Times writes:

The two candidates for mayor of Jackson are sending the right message to voters.

Crime should be the number one priority. Then all else should follow.

Democrat Frank Melton and Republican Rick Whitlow are selling the crime message to voters because it is one of the most nagging, systemic problems in the state capital.

While downtown Jackson may be a nice place with charm and a distinctly Southern look, once the veil of darkness settles over the city, the perception changes.

How the two candidates attack the crime issue may be different, but the message is the same. Get crime under control and then the other issues, such as economic development, will follow through the natural course of events.
