Upcoming Sugar Hill Releases

Sept. – Dolly Parton's "Live & Well" CD and DVD are getting a great response. Her great, big tour (dates available here: www.sugarhillrecords.com) is kicking off on October 14 in Greenville, SC.

OCTOBER 2004- Look for 2 new releases from us. Unfortunately there's been a small hold-up at manufacturing, so things will be going out much later than we like. Thanks for your patience with this…

CHRIS THILE: Thile's "Deceiver" is a broad leap from his work with Nickel Creek and his previous instrumental records. Thile plays over 25 instruments on the album – not only his signature mandolin; but also, electric guitars, violin, viola, cello, varying bass instruments, drums, piano, Wurlitzer, B-3, bouzouki and more. He is the sole musician, vocalist and songwriter on the album, and co-produced the effort with engineer Gary Paczosa. Though Thile is not the first musician to tackle a one-man show in the studio, it is notable the variety of instruments and musical styles he utilizes to blend genres.

ACOUSTIC SYNDICATE: The North Carolina natives are back with their second album on Sugar Hill, "Long Way Round." The band makes a departure from previous efforts by teaming up with producer/musician Lloyd Maines to create an album that captures their live energy, but also showcases their individual talents as songwriters and musicians. The addition of sax player Jeremy Saunders rounds out the group's sound.

ALSO THIS FALL:

SCOTT MILLER has been invited back for the taping of the next two tapings of Blue Collar TV in Atlanta. Look for him and The Commonwealth in future episodes of the down home comedy smash hit.

NEXT YEAR: Look for new releases from the following fine, fine Sugar Hill acts…

January 25:

SONNY LANDRETH: Look for "Grant Street," a live release from slide master Landreth who recorded the album in Lafayette, LA. The record features some of Landreth's live favorites and showcases the skills that led Eric Clapton to acclaim him "the most underestimated musician on the planet and also probably one of the most advanced." Keep an eye out for the album in the first months of 2005.

February 8:

THE DUHKS: All the way from Winnipeg, Manitoba, this young, versatile group of musicians brings together many distinct styles and genres to create an organic, driving blend of folk and acoustic music. Old time banjo, Celtic fiddle, Afro-Cuban percussion, and a soulful blues voice meld seamlessly in their treatment of material ranging from French-Canadian folk songs, plaintive Appalachian ballads, Celtic reels and Americana. Look for a new album from the band, produced by Bela Fleck and renowned engineer Gary Paczosa, early in 2005.

RECKLESS KELLY: "Wicked, Twisted Road" finds Reckless Kelly back in the studio with super-cool producer Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle et al) to capture their modern day outlaw country/Texas uprising sound. The original material shows off the band's chops as well as their brother-style harmonies and "rough around the edges" sensibilities.
