Insanity In Oxford (Updated)

David Cutcliffe is apparently still the football coach at Ole Miss. On Tuesday, after two days of meetings with his bosses, Cutcliffe met with reporters and issued a Kremlin-style statement. Allow Doctor S to translate: "I get to keep my job, but some of my assiistants need to start packing."

As Tuesday dawned, it was clear there was going to be a change in the Ole Miss football program on Tuesday. At the least, Cutcliffe was going to fire some of his assistants. Or Ole Miss might fire Cutcliffe. That would be an insane move on Ole Miss' part. This is the first time he's had a losing season at Ole Miss. Last year the Rebels were 10-3 and Cutcliffe was SEC coach of the year. Yes, Cutcliffe and his staff made some big mistakes during this year's 4-7 season, especially concerning the quarterback. Ole Miss fans keep talking about getting a "big name to take the program to the next level." Put away the crack pipe, Rebel Fan. It's 2004, not 1954. This is as good as it's going to get.

Speaking of insanity today in football, check out the mental hospital up in South Bend... they just fired Willingham.

Surprising. I always liked Willingham. I enjoyed watching his Stanford teams play.

Soooo, Willingham to Florida or Washington? Spurrier to South Carolina--that ones already set Urban Myer to Notre Dame--most likely Norm Chow to Cal? Who shows up in a Rebel hat?

Jen... I just heard that. Meyer, if I recall correctly, has an out clause in his contract for Notre Dame. Chow, possibly Stanford, but keep BYU in mind. He was an assistant there for many years when Edwards was the Cougars' head coach. Washington likely will go for Tedford if Cal-Berkeley doesn't come up with the money for the improvements that Tedford's requested. Willingham has several options. Back to Stanford; Washington-- maybe, maybe not. As far as Florida is concerned... I don't know. As far as Ole Miss is concerned... who knows? It won't be Tuberville-- that's for sure.
