Democratic Runoffs Likely in Supervisor Races

No official election results are in, yet, from the Hinds County Election Commission in yesterday's race for two Hinds County Board of Supervisor seats; however, early results indicate a Democratic runoff in both District 2 and District 4.

WAPT reports, unofficially, that in District 4, Democrat Jerry Hopkins has the lead with 257 votes to James Baker's 250. In the District's Republican primary, Tony Greer received 280 votes to Alvin Woods' 127.

In District 2, where all candidates are Democrats, Darrell McQuirter leads with 1,009 votes. Willie Robinson garnered 735 votes, and third-place contender David Archie has 504.

Runoff elections must be held if no primary candidates receive more than 50 percent of the votes. Runoffs will be held on Oct. 8. The final special election is scheduled for Nov. 5.
