OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The owners of the Downtown Inn in Oxford say it will be demolished after football season and replaced with new hotel.
The Oxford Eagle reports that the Courthouse Square Preservation Commission voted Monday to allow the Chamblee Co., which owns the hotel, to demolish the exiting building and replace it with a four-story boutique hotel.
Architect Roger A. Pryor said the side of the footprint will be reduced 30 percent, while the green space and landscaping will be increased by 25 percent.
The hotel, which will be called The Oxford Hotel, will go from 100 rooms to 120 rooms.
However, Chamblee must still receive a height variance of 7 feet, 7 inches from the Oxford Planning Commission to create the fourth floor.
