Mississippi Athletics Receives $25 Million Donation

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi's athletics department says it has received a $25 million donation from Dr. Gerald "Doc" Hollingsworth.

The donation is the single largest gift ever to Ole Miss athletics. School officials say that $10 million of the donation is a cash gift that will be used for the Forward Together campaign, which includes a current renovation project at the football stadium.

The remainder of the donation is in the form of a charitable trust that will establish a scholarship endowment.

This isn't the first large donation Hollingsworth has made to the athletics program. He contributed about $3 million in 1998, which is the reason the playing field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is already named after him.

Hollingsworth, who lives in Niceville, Florida, is a 1953 graduate of Ole Miss.
