Hearing Set for Men to Change Pleas in Miss. Racial Beatings

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A change-of-plea hearing is scheduled for two men charged in a series of 2011 racial beatings that culminated in the death of a Jackson man.

Court documents show hearings for John Louis Blalack and Robert Henry Rice are scheduled for Wednesday morning in U.S. District Court in Jackson.

Both men previously pleaded not guilty. Attorneys for the men did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday.

The June 26, 2011, death of James Craig Anderson captured widespread attention after it was caught on a hotel surveillance camera. Anderson was beaten before he was run over.

Blalack and Rice, both of Brandon, are the last two defendants in the case. Eight others have pleaded guilty previously. Two women, Sarah Adelia Graves and Shelbie Brooke Richards, entered guilty pleas in December.
