Cristina Lazzari

On Nov. 1, sisters Alejandra Sprouts and Cristina Lazzari opened La Brioche, an authentic French patisserie focusing on international sweets, breakfast pastries, mousse cakes, petit fours and confectioneries, in the Jackson Enterprise Building (931 Highway 80 West, Suite 174F). The two also brought La Brioche to the Mississippi Farmers Market (1207 Mississippi St.) Nov. 9.

Originally from Rosario, Argentina, Sprouts and Lazzari have traveled across Europe and South America throughout their lives, inspiring them to fuse different cultures through pastries.

"Our motto is 'Bringing the world to artisanal pastries,'" Lazzari said.

Sprouts completed the L'Art de la Patisserie program at the French Pastry School in Chicago, Ill.,under the teachings of Chefs Jacquy Pfeiffer and Sébastien Canonne. She finished a six-month internship at the school during which she worked under master bakers and world-renowned chefs. She gained experience working in hotels, restaurants and bakeries all over Chicago.

Lazzari moved from Miami to Sweden to complete her studies in horticulture. After marrying her husband, Patrik Lazzari, they moved back to the U.S. in 2002 and settled in Jackson. Lazzari developed a love for fine pastries and well-made coffee through her travels to Sweden and to southern Italy, where her husband has his heritage. She spent many years working in coffee shops and pastry shops in Europe and Mississippi.

La Brioche offers croissants, Danishes, quiches, tarts, macarons, cream puffs, meringues with Dulce de Leche, handmade chocolates and candies, and more.

La Brioche is open in the Enterprise Building Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and in the Mississippi Farmers Market Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sprouts and Lazzari can take orders via La Brioche's website or by phone at 601-988-2299.

Jackson Eye Associates' New Location

Jackson Eye Associates, the largest full-service ophthalmology practice in Mississippi, opened a new clinic and optical boutique Nov. 19 on the third floor of the Belhaven Building (1200 N. State St.). Ophthalmology deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye, and primarily focuses on eye surgery and treatment.

The new location, across the street from JEA's former location, will provide better parking and convenience for JEA's patients as well as more state-of-the-art facilities.

Dr. John McVey, Dr. Ken Toler, Dr. Glenn Herrington and Dr. John Ford formed Jackson Eye Associates together in 1999. All four are all still with the practice today.

JEA offers comprehensive eye care in addition to the optical boutique at each of its three locations in Jackson, Clinton and Madison. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
