Students produced the Power APAC "Day in the Life of a Hutterite Child" exhibit, from capturing the images to developing them.

The magnet school opened in January 1982 and serves students in grades 4-12 who want extra instruction in the arts. Last fall, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts recognized Power APAC with its National Schools of Distinction in Arts Education Award.

Current and former students will perform at a gala event this evening to mark the school's 30th anniversary. All students, staff, alumni, families and friends of the school are invited.

The gala will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Belhaven University Center for the Arts (835 Riverside Drive), and doors wil open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Hinds County Spelling Bee is also today. Students from public, private and parochial schools in Hinds County will compete for a chance to go to the state spelling bee next month. The national competition is in late May in Washington, D.C.
