Harvard Test to Gauge Racial Bias

This is an interesting test.

This website has several tests which will gauge your bias towards several different topics. The one on racial bias is really, really cool. If you go into the "demonstration" part of the website and choose the "Race" test it takes about ten minutes to complete.

They do warn you before you take the test that you might not like your results. From my experience ( ;-) ) people do not like it when they are told they DO have an inherent bias.

Feel free to play around on the site.

I don't think it is possible to not have bias in some form or fashion, people are tribal in nature, but with some work we can try to be reasonably fair. I have noticed at times when you are consciously working on a problem that involves race and the difference between the white solution and the black solution is minimal on an "objective basis" you can torture yourself endlessly-worrying about perceptions of racism etc. In a business setting this can be somewhat vexing, in that even the appearence of bias can be damaging. So in this state and day and time, I think it is healthy to accept we all have some bias, and work with it the best we can, but knowing that "nobody is perfect".
