When she walked into the front office of Wingfield High School, she gracefully introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Tiara Robinson," she said with a huge smile and firm handshake. This small gesture told me that Robinson is a person with high standards.

She led me into the JROTC office where we could talk. Robinson has a long list of accomplishments. She is valedictorian of Wingfield's 2007 graduating class. "I knew that I wanted to be number one in my class when I entered high school. My parents always kept track of my academic progress and my class ranking," she said. As student body vice president, she says she helped to organize a number of community service projects. Robinson is also JROTC battalion commander, president of Jobs for Mississippi Graduates, and a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta.

Robinson is one of seven students in the United States to be honored with the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross Award, which is the highest award that a JROTC cadet can receive. She was named Jackson Public School's Cadet of the Year. Robinson is a straight-A student and currently takes four Advanced Placement classes. She is an active member of New Jerusalem Church. In her free time, she likes to exercise and spend time with her family.

Her parents, Alvin and Sandra Jackson, are her motivation. "I am going to attend Jackson State University because both of my parents went there," Robinson said. She will be attending JSU on a full academic scholarship while majoring in pre-physical therapy. She doesn't credit only one instructor for keeping her on task because they all played a major role in her success.

Robinson doesn't plan on slacking off this summer. She'll be attending Hinds Community College to "get some of her freshmen courses out of the way." Robinson says that she plans on being active in the Senior ROTC program at Jackson State so that she can fulfill her goal of becoming an officer in the United States Army. "I plan to serve a full term in the army, retire and start my own physical therapy practice—hopefully here in Jackson," Robinson said.

Robinson says that whenever she is faced with a difficult task she remembers that "no weapon formed against (her) shall prosper." This verse reassures Robinson that God will not allow anything to harm her.

Robinson's message for younger people: "Find something that you are passionate about and work hard to achieve your goals."

Tiara, You are definitely a young lady to be proud of. Continue your positive spirit and I agree, "No weapon formed agaist (you) shall prosper." I am hopeful that we can do our part in making MS the kind of State that our young will feel good about returning to. You are to be commended for having a vision to prepare yourself for a productive future.
