Melton and His Guns

After presiding over a trial that found Frank Melton not guilty of four felony counts related to the Aug. 26, 2006, Ridgeway incident, Coahoma County Judge Joe Webster is giving Melton back his guns.

Melton is on probation for three misdemeanor weapons violations to which he pleaded not guilty last November. Webster took over that probation last spring when the state Supreme Court removed Circuit Court Judge Tommie Green.

Webster's order on Melton's probation means the gun-packing mayor can legally have a weapon in his own home. Webster also cleared the mayor to resume supervising youths under age 17. In the past, Melton's house was often filled with youths, some of whom have had troubles with the law, such as Michael Taylor and Fredrica Brunson.
