As The Eli Turns

Eli Manning, everybody's second-favorite former Ole Miss Classic is still in the headlines in the wake of the New York Giants' meltdown in a 24-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Fortunately, the NYC tabloids won't let it rest. Here are some of Doctor S' favorite stories:

N.Y. Post: Blame stars and ends with Eli
N.Y. Post: Giants stand by their Manning
N.Y. Daily News: Coughlin, you blue it
N.Y. Daily News: Eli backs self, but not Plax
Newsday: Maybe this is as good as Eli gets
Newsday: Eli shows angst

I still expect Eli to have a good career and to succeed greatly. He certainly has the skills to do it. New York is a pressure cooker and he should have considered more deeply whether it was really better for him to go there. He's too good and too smart to completely fail, in my view. He's playing deperate football right now as opposed to being cool, cerebral, and poised. Hid daddy (whom I never liked very much as a quarterback) and brother Peyton will counsel him about poise and when go for it all. I'm not a Giants fan anymore since cocaine-laced and come-to-practice-in-handcuffs Lawrence Taylor retired. And, by the way, he was "set up like a ______ ______" when arrested in Florida for trying to buy drugs.
