Titties On Trial

Attorneys for a topless bar argued in federal court this week that the city of Jackson illegally closed Babes in early March. Local attorney Chris Ganner and Tampa, Fla., attorney Luke Lirot argued that the city also squelched the owner's rights to appeal.

Former Mayor Dale Danks Jr., a contract attorney for the city who is also acting as a city adviser in the recent closing of topless bars Centerfolds and Girls of Paradise, told The Clarion-Ledger that police told Babes general manager Bo Powell that there was no record of a renewal application in city files for 2006.

Powell, though, claimed that an employee of the bar submitted paperwork and paid the city to renew the club's license for 2006 in late October.

U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate is presiding over Babe's attempt to obtain a restraining order against the city for numerous forced closings. If Wingate sides with the club, it will re-open.

Adam, too bad you didn't slip your headline to the club lawyers to use as a theme for the trial. To some the repetetive use of your headline would assure a victory. Those and their friend located behind and below them are a powerful combination. I'm slapping myself for objectifcation and sinning. My friends told me to tell you "they sho' hope they win!

Can I proudly, as a third-(or fourth- or fifth-)wave feminist, claim the "titties" headline? I just want the world to know that I am proud for the word "titty" to appear in my newspaper. ;-D

It never ceases to amaze me. We chase criminals and then hire them. We let major business coorperations slip away to neighboring cities. We have seriuos questions about our budget. We even wear bulletproof vest and parade around like we are the judge and jury, but we are making the news with a federal case about t******? I thought that we all loved to see them. I guess that I was wrong.

Speaking of them (I cant say the word), before rising this morning, as I flipped thru the cable channels, I saw portions of a show called "Busting Out or Loose", or something like this. Either phrase is equally appealing!Several of the female commentators said research shows that only about 13% of the male population have this infatuation with them as sex objects or symbols. They went on to say, most men never touch them. How dumb! How else can the woman get a free exam? Some countiries are so far behind us. According to the same researchers and commentators, in some countries, even the eyes are considered a sex symbol. I don't know that I have ever looked at any of these. Just kidding! In many parts of the world, the legs, the hair, the back, the belly, the feet, the waistline,, the arms, and behind are the sex symbols. All I can say is the good Lord was at the top of his talents when he created the woman. Not surprisingly, the United States is the leader in looking to them (you know) as sex objects. Some woman pay good money for them, too. And worse, at some of our finest hours, some jealous women will remark "those ain't real" like we men got sense enough to care. Arsenio Hall once said the price tag could be hanging on them and he wouldn't care.

I care. I don't want enhancements, but rather the woman. If I were in that 13%, I would want the real deal, not some simulation. Am I sentimental? And yet, what else should we be sentimental about? For myself, as with most men, what matters is that the woman have breasts, not that they be of a particular size. The excitement is in difference, and in the fact that nature provided gateways to emotion. I am impatient with men who pretend to be dogs, happy for any scrap, while they act like bitter housewives in their personal lives. Embrace, my brothers, your sexual ambivalence, for the man-scam is beginning to look ridiculous. I am convinced that men and women are not that different in what they want from sex. Different lies, that's all.

I remember years ago when strip clubs first came to Jackson, some of the city's "leaders" were seen parking away from these clubs, but sneaking into them to get an eyefull. How hypoctitical can you get. I wonder what REALLY went on down in the Bahamas a few weeks ago. Did Frank try and shut them down also? Or did he have a handfull of ones and try to stuff them in the dancers G-strings. Too often we as people try and play both sides of the fence by publicly fighting something that we do behind closed doors. I wonder did Frank ever have any typical male fun or was he always an a$$.

We forgot to say thanks, Donna, for the headlines. I can forecast the next one, "T____ Wins, Again."
