D.C. Rumormill: Cheney May Resign, Condi Move Up

According to a piece in U.S. News and World Report, rumors are flying around Washington that Vice President Cheney might resign if "Plamegate" indictments reaches into the V.P.'s office. Further speculation suggests that Bush would nominate Condolezza Rice as Cheney's successor.

In related blogging Raw Story is reporting that Patrick Fitzpatrick, the special prosecutor in the Plame-outing case, has the cooperation of former Cheney and John Bolton aide John Hannah, who may have cut a deal with the prosecution. Hannah was named as a target in the probe (meaning he would likely face indictment) and might be a witness for the prosecution in order to cut down his jail time.

The fact that Rice has remained a part of this administration is enough of a reason why she should not become vice president even in lure of her potentially being both the first black and female!
