My Favorite Palin Moment, Yet

This is a truly stupendous moment. Just look at Katie Couric's face as she presses Palin for those examples of McCain's attempts at regulation and then Palin's response:

Here's her explanation about why Alaska being close to Russia is important foreign-policy experience:

Here's Palin getting saved from witches. Seriously. (Skip ahead to 6:30 for the really good stuff.)

You can't make this stuff up. It's be hilarious if it weren't so sad.

"...and I'll bring 'em to ya."

Are we sure she's the VP nominee? I really do think we're just watching a bad episode of the West Wing.

That's what you say when you are an administrative assistant and trying to cover your as$...not when you are second in charge of the free world.

"Hey, Sarah, you got those QTP reports?"

"Honey, I'll try to find them and bring them to you."

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think McCain has gotten back with us on how many houses he own.

Right, Lori. I can't wait to see what Tina Fey does with *this* one.

Roosevelt was President in 1929 and discussed the stock market crash on television? Thanks Joe Biden!

I can only imagine what this board would be posting if Palin had said the same.

posted by Fat Harry on 09/25/08 at 10:08 AM

He said television instead of radio. He is 65. Misspeaking one word is not the same as NOT KNOWING DETAILS ABOUT YOUR OWN RUNNING MATE! Couric gave her several chances to answer. I am sure that if Biden was given a second shot to revise his answer he would be able to correct that ONE word. Keep grasping at straws and you may eventually have a bale of hay!

I think 1929 was Biden and McCain's first year in the Senate, lol.

Maybe he's thinking of Herbert Hoover...since he was president in 1929.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pegs Palin: <She is as much a product of the oil industry as the current president and his vice president. Now John McCain has chosen as his running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a diligent student of Big Oil's crib sheets. She's something of a flat-earther who shares the current administration's contempt for science. Palin has expressed skepticism about evolution (which is like not believing in gravity), putting it on par with "creationism," which posits that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago…

Palin's enthusiastic embrace of Big Oil's agenda has been the platform of her hasty rise in Alaskan politics. In that sense she is as much a product of the oil industry as the current president and his vice president. Palin, whose husband is a production operator for BP on Alaska's North Slope, has sued the federal government over its listing of the polar bear as an endangered species threatened by global warming, and she has fought to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Alaska's coast to oil drilling. When oil profits are at stake, her fantasy world appears to have no boundaries… I guess the only difference between Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney is ... lipstick.>

You have to honestly wonder if McCain in his deepest most secret places is going "Why the hell did I get this woman to be my VP?!?"

She sort of reminds me of..."I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some... people out there in out nation don't have maps, and, uh, i believe thatour education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and ... "

McCain thinks she was the perfect pick because he thinks we are all stupid - especially women. She is a woman, so all of the women who supported Hillary are supposed to flock to her, but she is a tough, manly woman that kills moose and talks trash so all of the macho men are supposed to like her, and she is pretty, so everybody else will like her. Someone on "The Root of All Evil" said this about picking your leaders by asking, 'would I like to have a beer with this candidate?' - "Maybe you are in a bar right now. Look around. Do you see any presidents?"

OK, here's more Couric-Palin video, this time about why her proximity to Russia is foreign policy experience.

It's simply unbelievable. I find it hard to believe she will ever step onto that stage with Biden. Maybe she'll get the flu or something.

Maureen Dowd wrote an interesting piece on Palin:

Dear Lord Jesus In Heaven and Mary...she didn't just say that, did she?

She knows we can hear her, right?

I am one of the believers that McCain pulled out of the debate to push back the VP debate due to Palin's recent gaffes in several interviews. I'm pretty sure they have realized she is NOT ready to debate Biden.

But, after watching that video, I don't see how a few more weeks is going to help.

The "protection"of Palin is wearing thin on the American public. Well, everyone except the woman next to me at a nail place on Saturday. She just thought Palin was "precious" and Cindy was "gorgeous" and I started thinking about ways to maim her with the electric filer.

Right after she commented on how beautiful Cindy McCain was I couldn't stand it anymore and had to turn to her and say, "I KNOW. She's had some REALLY good work done on her face, right?"

Her look was worth it.

My best friend than copped to being a Democrat. We were in RANKIN COUNTY. She has a death wish, I swear. After she made this revelation, the nail tech REFUSED to finish her manicure. Seriously. REFUSED. It was the craziest sh!t.

That second video ladd posted has a great comment under it:

Wow. Alaska is close to Canada, too. I forgot about that. She's just bubbling with foreign policy experience. I wonder if Bush ever claimed Texas' proximity to Mexico as foreign policy experience.

posted by Tre on 09/25/08 at 04:05 PM

I guess I won't get my manicure in Rankin County. Alas, woe is me.

I'm glad that Palin is looking out from her backyard in case Putin rears his head up into our air space. She can shoot him and gut him like a moose.

posted by Whitley on 09/25/08 at 04:08 PM

Lori, that is so a column. Hint, hint.

Putin: Gutted Like a Moose. Love it. ;-D

posted by ladd on 09/25/08 at 05:23 PM

I'm gettin' the hint. :)

That last video...I wish he would ask Jesus to teach her foreign policy. God knows I hate witches and sh!t, but I'm generally more concerned with Putin...no matter if his head happens to be over SIBERIA from time to time. Maybe they should ask the witches to make sure Putin can't "raise his head" over Siberia....because that's just freakin' freaky.

(As per the above comment...it IS a column because the woman's husband ended up working in energy and the nail tech "officially" refused to finish the nail job because when EB copped to being a Democrat HE screamed, 'DOES THAT MEAN YOU ARE PRO-CHOICE?' It went straight from cutting cuticles to accusations of baby killing. I feel that's an accurate description of Rankin County.)

posted by Lori G on 09/25/08 at 06:54 PM

Somebody needs to rescue me from Rankin County, Lori! Sorry you had such a ridiculous experience.
Glad I do my own nails so I don't have to worry about such things!

That last video is so sad and scary. I could tell she was nervous and knew she didn't have a good answer. Bless her heart!

"God knows I hate witches...". Me too. I wonder if Cheney is a warlock or something...no one ever seems to know where he is.

The Washington Post Jonathan Capeheart compares Palin's response on foreign police and the Miss Teen U.S.A. contender from South Carolina: "Maybe it's a beauty queen thing."

posted by Ronni M on 09/26/08 at 08:57 AM

I briefly felt sorry for Palin. People should not be put in situations that they are unprepared for. I immediately thought about that poor Teen USA constestant. I will feel even sorrier for us if she becomes president. We will need the witch hunter to put the voodoo dust on all of us!

BeliefNet offers an interesting tie-in on Palin's foreign policy and her religious beliefs:

"As a mainline Protestant whose faith values pluralism, I confess that I have been reluctant to blog on Ms. Palin's religion or to make that an issue. But a small turn of phrase in her Katie Couric interview has given me pause and underscored the importance of Ms. Palin's theology in relationship to her politics.

"In Part II of the CBS interview, Katie Couric pressed Ms. Palin on the issue of Russia and how Alaska's proximity has an impact on her experience in international affairs. Her answer, like her answer to Charlie Gibson to the same question, was awkward. In the midst of it, she proffered a strange expression to explain her worry about a resurgent Russia: "as Putin rears his head."

"To most observers, that phrase may seem an unusual way to talk about increased Russian military activity in Eastern Europe and Asia. However, what secular observers do not know is that the specific phrase is also theological code for "as the Anti-Christ rears his head."'

"God knows I hate witches..."

Is that why she wrinkles her nose so much!?! That drove me crazy during her Convention speech. There doesn't seem anything presidential about wrinkling your nose up like you're looking at an ugly pair of shoes.

It's so sad that a woman close to the presidency is such a ditz. Reminds me of the Republicans' choice of Clarence Thomas. Thanks, guys, for acknowledging the non-white-men who deserve it. <sarcasm off>

My continuing question about Palin is: Why does she lie when she doesn't need to?

Why not: "I have an Israeli flag in my office."

That would not be a lie.

posted by ladd on 09/26/08 at 10:13 AM

They think the average American is an idiot/hick/rube who will believe whatever lies they tell them such as "buy whatever lie we are selling today because McCain is a POW and Palin wears a bigger flag pin than Obama".

CNN: Palin in trouble:

[V]oters are now apparently having doubts. A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released yesterday found that while 47 percent of likely voters believed that Palin had the personality and leadership qualities a president should have, 49 percent said she didn't.

Compare that with her Democratic counterpart Joe Biden: 55 percent said he had the necessary qualities, while only 39 percent said he did not. Both Barack Obama and John McCain had 62 percent of voters believing they have what it takes to be president.

And now some conservative commentators are skeptical or disillusioned. Syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker, who had praised McCain's surprise selection of Palin, called yesterday for her to step aside from the ticket.
