Events: Green and More Green This Weekend

It's time for Jackson's biggest citywide party, all centering on Mal's St. Paddy's Parade, which steps off at 1 p.m. Saturday at State and Court streets in downtown Jackson. Even if you're not a parade kind of person, venues all over are stockpiling their green beer and other Irish favorites. Fenian's is holding its annual two-day indoor-outdoor St. Patrick's block party, for example, Underground 119 is having a street party, and then there's the after-parade street party at Hal & Mal's. If you can still keep going, F. Jones Corner is hosting a late-night party until 4 a.m. Start your search for weekend goings-on with the St. Patty's Sched and if you don't see what you're looking for head to the JFP Events Calendar for even more options.

If gardening is your thing, make sure to stop by the Jackson Garden and Patio show that kicked off this morning at 10 a.m. in the Mississippi Trade Mart. The show continues Saturday and Sunday. And if you're not hangin' out at one of the many pre-parade events tonight, go check out "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" at New Stage Theater, where the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. Don't let the bard's name scare you from this parody of everything he wrote, performed by only three actors. Start your search for more things to do in Jackson on the JFP Best Bets page.

For those who just don't favor all the green goings-on, head to Jackson State Saturday for the One Million Mentors Campaign at noon. See Michael Baisden, Deuce McAllister and Jackson's Deputy Chief Tyrone Lewis and others as they champion the need for adult mentorship. Saturday is also the last day of the National Cutting Horse Association Eastern National Championships at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center on High Street. If you've never seen a good cutting horse in action, battling wits and speed with a calf separated from the herd, it's a sight to behold; admission is free. More events on the JFP Events Calendar.

Relax this Sunday and let someone else take care of the cooking and the cleanup. The place to begin your search for the perfect mea--whether that's brunch, lunch or dinner--are the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide.

Is something missing? To make sure your event is listed on the JFP calendars and listings pages, send the information to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Or, add your event yourself. It's easy!
