Protest Wednesday: Local residents say Bush is ignoring most Americans who want to end the war and bring the troops home safely

On Wednesday, May 2, local residents will protest President Bush's veto of the Iraq Accountability Act – a bill to end the Iraq war and bring the troops home safely in 2008.

Local members of MoveOn.org Political Action are organizing today's event, which is one of several hundred around the country. President Bush vetoed the bill despite its bipartisan majorities supporting it in both houses of Congress and a clear mandate by Americans in the 2006 election to bring the troops home.

"The November election was a mandate to end the war – when President Bush vetoed this bill, he vetoed the will of the American people," said Polly Thornhill, a local mother, and 30 year resident of Jackson. "It's time for our leaders to end this war and bring our troops home safely. Rep. Bennie Thompson must stand firm against Bush's veto."

A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll found that 70 percent of Americans disapprove of President Bush's handling of Iraq, 58 percent trusted congressional Democrats to do a better job than Bush in Iraq, and 56 percent favored bringing our troops home instead of keeping them in Iraq indefinitely. (April 16 poll.)

MoveOn is a 3.2 million member organization that uses the Internet and modern technology to empower people to make a difference in our democracy.

More of the money of George Soros at work.

What did the Dems honestly have planned as Plan B? They should have known he'd veto it, and that they might not be able to override it. Not having a plan in case plan A goes "Boom" is poor planning.

It was good to see on the news tonight that aparently no more than 5 people in Jackson share these sentiments. Better luck next time!

There were more than five people there, and there were WAY more that five people that drove by and waved, honked, gave a thumbs-up, or a peace sign in support of the protesters.

The rightwingers are spinning this as, "The Dems don't support the troops - the Dems are cutting off funding to the troops," because they didn't hand bush the exact funding bill he wanted. The dems are spinning it the other way, saying "We tried, but bush wouldn't cooperate." The Dems knew bush would veto the bill, but went ahead with it anyway so they could look like they were giving the public what they voted for last November. Pelosi said that eventually the "money will get to the troops without timetables." They are all posers!

The fact is, bush isn't listening to the People. The People made it clear last November that this war needs to end.
