Out With The Old?

New arrivals on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors formed a new majority, putting Supervisor Doug Anderson out in the cold this week.
Shortly after taking their oath, new supervisors Robert Graham and Phil Fisher joined returning member Peggy Calhoun in nixing a $14 million parking garage, whose lead architect was Anderson's former son-in-law.
The new coalition also installed Calhoun as board president and Fisher as vice president. The board then voted to solicit resumes for four appointed positions in county government, including county administrator, public works director, board attorney and emergency operations director.
Calhoun told The Clarion-Ledger that Fisher could be re-hired. Azande Williams, the board attorney, likely will not.
Anderson said the three had planned this in advance.
"It looked to me like they planned to get rid of all three black people and keep the white person (Fisher)," Anderson told the Jackson Free Press. "I think Azande did a fine job, and I hate to see him go."
Calhoun did not return calls.
