Tonight, the place to see and be seen is ArtRemix, the Mississippi Museum of Art's after-hours party. Starting at 5 p.m., the event features live music from Jesse Robinson, Nekisopaya and Will Kimbrough, along with food and drinks. Admission is $25 at the door, $20 for members. The opening ceremonies for The World Cup are also starting tonight and many local bars are offering front row seats to see it on screen. See a listing of World Cup showings here.

For the more experimentally-inclined the Mississippi Improv Alliance hosts the Andrew Weathers Ensemble, Knot My Soul and Ink on Paper at the Welty Commons for a night of boundary-pushing sounds starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $5; call 601-540-1267. Start your Saturday early with some fresh local produce at the Misssissippi Farmers Market's Summer Kick-off, which runs from 8 am. to 2 p.m. The Nouveau String Band will provide live music to accompany caricature artist Bob Pennebaker and Chef James Roache of Ro'Chez, who will demonstrate recipes using fresh-from-the-market ingredients. Comic fans should flock to the Welty Commons for the free Mississippi PulpCon. Local and regional artists working in comics, pop art and pulp literature will be signing, sketching and socializing from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Barbecue and sourdough pizzas will be available for sustenance.

The USA International Ballet Competition kicks off Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. with its opening ceremony at Thalia Mara Hall. Call 601-979-9249. Sunday, strap on your dancing shoes for the Mostly Monthly Ceili, a family-friendly celebration of Irish music and dance at Fenian's Pub. King Homecoming concludes with blues concert at the Central City Complex, featuring Mel Waiters, Floyd Taylor, Chick Willis LaMorris Williams and Karen Wolfe. Tickets for the show are $40, and music starts at 3 p.m.
