Tonight, the Mississippi Braves play the Tennessee Smokies, and it's sure to be a spectacular game. The excitement starts at 7 p.m. at Trustmark Park (1 Braves Way, Pearl) and admission is$8 to $12. You can find plenty to do in Jackson any night. the JFP Best Bets page is always a great starting point .

Feel like listening to some jazz instead? The Mississippi Jazz Foundation's Red Hot Jazz Explosion is also happening tonight at 7 p.m. at Hal & Mal's Red Room. The event includes music by Laurie Walker, Pam Confer and Thomas "Tiger" Rogers. $10 get you in the door. For more musical options, head to the JFP Music Listings.

Saturday is packed with enjoyment for all. Attend the Mississippi Bodybuilding Championships at Thalia Mara Hall for a high-powered show, which includes a 9:30 a.m. pre-judging ($15) and a 7 p.m. competition ($20-$30) Bring the kids and enjoy ice cream and animals at the Trustmark Ice Cream Safari. The fun starts at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Zoo (2918 W. Capitol St.). JFP senior reporter Adam Lynch will scoop ice cream along with other local media personalities.

Later in the day, The Mississippi Opry Summer Show is at 6 p.m. at the Pearl Community Room (2420 Old Brandon Road, Pearl). $10, children under 18 free. Need more ideas about fun stuff to do Saturday? Plan your adventures with the JFP Events Calendar.

Sunday brings a close to the weekend but not to the events in the area. The Detectives Mystery Dinner Theatre presents "Fed Up" at 11:30 a.m. at Kathryn's. With brunch included, it's $39. The Art House Cinema Downtown at Russell C. Davis Planetarium (201 E. Pascagoula St.) features "Simon Boccanegra" at 2 p.m. ($16) and "Certified Copy" at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. ($7). For a rousing Sunday afternoon, enjoy dancing and food at the Jackson Irish Dancers' Mostly Monthly Ceili. It begins at 2 p.m. at Fenian's, and it's free.
