We can all keep in touch with Casey's adventure at
http://parks.blogs.nytimes.com/
Also, Lisa Mullins at NPRs The World did another interview with her. This is the show's interview with her on Sept 11 Interview. (Scroll down until you see the phrase "Casey interview", which lasts exactly 6 minutes)
BTW The irony of Casey leaving on Sept 11 was not lost on her.
Return to us safe, Casey!!! Beyond that, I'm sure you and we can get a lot of insight and perspective from yours and Mr. Kristof's experiences.

Yay for Casey. Of course, the morons at the NYTimes (sorry, Casey, I know you have to spend time with a few of them) have blocked Casey's blog behind their "TimesSelect" firewall because they're morons. Of course there's no chance that Casey's work might open up the Times to a younger audience...generate a few subscriptions...idiots.
Anyway, I have no doubt that they'd make it more difficult for me personally if I posted Casey's blogs in total here, but we need at least a screenshot:

Hey, Casey is on the front page of NYT's Web site today. Yes, it's behind that damned Times Select, but if you scroll down a bit from the top stories, you can see her in front of some Africa lake, looking out over the top of her glasses. Her expression seems to say, "What? Me worry about Africa? Nah."

You know, it just figures that Casey went to Africa with Nick Kristoff the same weeks that we broke the Melton sledgehammer story. That meant that we were all too damn busy to constantly talk about her adventures! Anyway I just saw on the AAN site that Casey is doing a press junket now that she's back, appearing on the Today Show and other little outlets like that. ;-)
We are so proud of Casey—and she is really representing both Jackson and the JFP in an incredible way. We may have a crazy mayor, but look at the talent this city is sending out into the world! (And hopefully luring back.)

You know, she's like our anti-Melton. With Melton, I hear all kinds of stuff from people who don't know I live in Jackson, directing me to read up on that stuff going on down yonder in Mississippi with that crazy mayor. But I just received a newsletter from my About.com colleague Keith Porter, and surprise--he's writing about Casey. Keep on keeping on, girl. You're making us all proud to be Jacksonians at a time when that isn't necessarily always an easy thing.
Cheers,
TH

Oh, duh, I see you already linked to Keith's piece. But the fact that we both saw it independently kind of proves my point. :o)

i just saw this! Oh, iTodd, I'd prefer not to be behind TimesSelect, either. I wish more students could read it, and I know students are NOT going to pay to read a newspaper online.
I'll be keeping up the blog for a little while longer (two months, I think), though I'm not sure what I'll write about yet. I wish the Times would pay me to come down South and write!
And! I appreciate everyone's support! I've been trying to catch up on all this Melton stuff now that I'm back. Keep up the good work!

Hey, girlie. What amazing stories. Will they let you write something for us about your trip and what you learned from it? (We can put it out to AltWeeklies, of course.)
E-mail me!
