Boil Water Notice; JSU Suspends Activities
A water main break is causing low water pressure at Jackson State University, leading the school to suspend classes and activities this weekend.
A water main off of Interstate 220 is causing low water pressure south of Interstate 20, east to the Pearl River and west to Robinson Road, as well as at JSU. Crews are working to repair the water main, but officials expect the problems to continue through Sunday night.
The city has issued a precautionary boil water notice for the area, as well as for anyone experiencing low water pressure, until further notice. People should also conserve water as much as possible, a statement from the city said.
"All customers are advised to boil their drinking water until adequate pressure is restored to the system," the statement said. "Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute for the following: cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks feeding pets, and all other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering, washing dishes or clothes."
JSU is encouraging students and employees to leave campus for the weekend, if possible. Portable toilets should be available at residence halls, athletic facilities and the campus Department of Public Safety by 5 p.m.
All classes, events and activities on campus are canceled through Sunday. The school will update its website as more information becomes available.

I do believe that's the water main right next to my work. They've been laying a new one and filling up old ones and doing repairs. Last week, when they switched to the new one, seven pipes in the facility burst. It flooded. House was old. Increase in pressure blew anything that was loose. Water is shooting out of the walls and coming up through the floors. We're closing down and the entire house is basically being replumbed. I wouldn't be surprised if I was on a list at Public Works.. I think some letters I've faxed them walk the line of hate mail. I just start going off when I see their trucks. I'll even talk bad about their mothers.

From another release from the city, it looks like the water main is off Interstate 220, north of the Highway 49 exit.

Statement from the city this morning, verbatim:
Contractors for the City of Jackson have completed repairs of the 42” water main off of I-220 and are currently filling and flushing the segment of pipe. Crews will put the 42” back online and begin applying pressure to the system around noon today.
It may take several hours for some residents to see the water pressure rise who live in the south parts of Jackson.
Even when pressure is restored, customers who have been under a precautionary boil advisory should still observe it until further notice.
THIS NOTICE DOES NOT AFFECT CUSTOMERS SERVED BY JACKSON’S WELL WATER SYSTEM.
