“Best Of” Party Was Faaaaaantastic!!!

My love and blessings go out to everyone who came out last night to the "Best Of" Party at Voodoo. It surpassed even my expectations. I was impressed with the love that JFP has out in these mean streets of Jacktown and eqaully humbled at how much love some of you have for your favorite neighborhood rapper:-)

Thank You to everyone who voted for me as their choice for best Hip-Hop artist and even more thanks to those that finally got to see me in person and voiced their support. In the words of that famous actress..You like me...you reeeeallly like me. And I am greatful.

But dont think for one second Im going to stop raising hell! Told you I was going to be more trouble than Im worth in 2007 so hold on to your seats.. and to all of you who got a sampling of the new material(I handed out some cd's) hit me here and let me know what ya think ok. I had a blast. The food was excellent and the drinks were free!!!(my favorite kind). That's the kind of party environment that we need more of here. Kudos to the JFP staff, glad to a part of the team. Since everybody's doing it, I may put together my own exploratory committee :-) for City council. If I get one-tenth of the love folks had for me in that room, I couldnt lose! Peace.

...and hopefully one day I can reach the level of party power that the guy in gold suit had last night... We were NOT on his level LOL!!!!

Yes, Best Artist Josh Hailey was positively glowing in that skintight gold jumpsuit!

Thanks, Kaze. It was a wonderful party. (And we're *thrilled* that you're a member of the team, too—and the more hell-raising the better!)

Thanks so much to everyone who made the party a success—especially the businesses that provided such delightful food, and Barefoot Wines and Capital City Beverage. And Phingaprint, of course. And Mardi Gras/Voodoo for hosting; their staff was excellent! (I'll get and post a full list of sponsors here, so y'all can go show them some love.)

We're not absolutely certain, but are pretty confident that this was our biggest turnout ever. Cheers to you, Jackson.

oh...and I definitely be going to see my new homies at Fenian's.. Met sooo many cool folks...and yes the turnout was amazing! It can only get better.

Yeah, I love that Fenian's gang. They were spreading tons of love. Hell, everybody was.

(Kaze, whose Council seat would you be running for?)

posted by DonnaLadd on 01/22/07 at 12:52 PM

yes, the gold suited fellow was dy-no-MYTE! was great to see you, Kamikaze and Ladd, you are right the party was a blast. Lots of fun. Hooray to all who came. It's an inspiring crowd...

JoAnne looked pretty cool in her tux, too, with her black-and-white Mardi Gras mask, eh? And then there was that big Elvis guy.JoAnne looked pretty cool in her tux, too, with her black-and-white Mardi Gras mask, eh? And then there was that big Elvis guy.

So, folks, I drop this hint about once a year, after the Best of party. If you want VIP invites to JFP events and discounts to other events around town, get yourself on the LoungeList! (Just enter your e-mail address into the box on the top of the JFP site's front page.)

BTW, our next big bash should be the Third Annual Chick Ball. Date to come, probably in May. And being that the JFP will turn 5 in September, rest assured that there will be some big throwdown to celebrate it. We're open for creative ideas.

Just ran across this fun description of the party on someone's personal blog. Enjoy:

The free food and beer were the main draw, but the local characters were a close second. One attention-seeking man wore a body-hugging gold lame' jumpsuit, another man dressed like Snow White, and a third dressed like a hung over Elvis. Dorothy from Oz was there along with some dread-lock bearing rastafarians. A blonde woman I'll call 'interesting' wore a t-shirt with the slogan "Hugo Chavez is not the enemy." The best food offering of the night was burgers from Cool Al's.

posted by DonnaLadd on 01/22/07 at 01:09 PM

yes, JoAnne in the tux looked divine, as usual! She can probably wear a paper bag and be glamourous...she was great.

posted by Izzy on 01/22/07 at 01:33 PM

well Donna...My current address makes me a resident of Ward 2 so....

...and Cool Al's(Stamps to me LOL) is always the s--t! Their turkey burgers are THE best!

TC just dropped an excellent collection of pics by from the party. We'll get them up this week, and hopefully some by other photogs. Anybody take pictures last night that you want in the galleries? If so, bring 'em on.

Wow, looking at those pictures, I really realized how packed it was. And I saw people in the photos that I never saw last night. That says something.

Thanks, all, for making it another fab Best-of night.

Update: Josh found his camera. (What, Josh, no pockets on that thing!?!) Photos coming soon, all! (Josh, want to post a gallery of your photos?)

And I simply cannot WAIT to see Kaze in skintight gold spandex.

The food was amazing. Our local restaurants outdid themselves. ;-)

Pizza Shack, Soulshine, Cool Al's, Fenian's, Mardi Gras, Hal & Mal's, W.C. Don's, Que Sera Sera ... who am I leaving out? Y'all help me out.

posted by DonnaLadd on 01/23/07 at 01:15 PM

i had a BLAST at the party this year too, as did my friends, and we all kept saying that there should be events like that more often. that was one of the coolest crowds i've been part of in a long time.

is the Best-Of party ever on a Saturday? that was the only bad thing -- I had to get up early the next day for work so I couldn't play as long as I wanted to!

posted by andi on 01/23/07 at 02:43 PM

oh and Donna you left out Little Tokyo/Sakura Bana -- I think I remember tasting some of their fine sushi that night!

posted by andi on 01/23/07 at 02:44 PM

Ooo, right, Andi. I knew y'all would get my back. You always do. ;-)

We've started purposely having them on Sunday nights—so that the restaurant/nightlife people can attend, celebrate and get their awards. I mean, this is about honoring them. And, frankly, I think we'd have 5,000 people on a Saturday night at this point. ;-) Also, we don't tend to compete with other events on Sunday nights, and we end everything by 11, and start at 6, so there's time for everyone to participate. So I doubt we'll change that. But our other events—Chick Ball and our big birthday party—will likely to be on the weekend, so there's that.

Want to be on the Chick Ball committee? ;-)

posted by DonnaLadd on 01/23/07 at 02:54 PM

i gotcha... although i think a 5,000 person party would still be a blast!

i think i'm on the committee for Chick Ball because Laurel and I talked about it, but if you don't see my name please do sign me up!! i'm looking forward to helping however i can. :)

posted by andi on 01/23/07 at 04:24 PM

Well, maybe that one will be the big birthday blowout in September. ;-)

Cool, y'all should plan a committee meeting soon; be in touch here with Natalie about it. She and I are headed to SF for a few days, but could meet after the middle of next week.
