Audio of Melton Indictment Press Conferences

Here is the audio of the three press conferences from earlier today, detailing the indictments that have been brought by a special grand jury this morning as a result of charges brought by the Hinds Country Sherriff's department, the Hinds County District Attorney and the Attorney General of Mississippi. Each had their own press conference this afternoon. The files linked are Windows Media Audio files...I'll post MP3 translations later this afternoon.

- Hinds County Sherriff Malcolm McMillian's press conference (WMA, 3.7MB)
- Hinds County District Attorney Faye Peterson's press conference (WMA, 2.5MB)
- Attorney General Jim Hood's press conference (WMA, 4.9MB)

We'll try to get a podcast up from the Danks interview, although the rumor is that Adam recorded it using some sort of *actual tape* technology, so that might take a little time.

JFP 'Team Coverage" continues...

Tape technology? What is that?

Please get those MP3s up quickly! You know us latte-sippin', scooter-ridin', elitist, Mac enthusiasts don't feed money to the Microsoft Monster!

Y'all rock. Seriously. You're providing better coverage right now than any of the big three local affiliates, which (last I checked) hadn't even noted that Danks had a press conference at 4.

Cheers,

TH

Knol:

Windows Media player is free, ya know. It's sorta stickin' it to M$, really, to use their technology and not pay them for it. Plus, it happens to be the format that Donna's damn digital recorder uses.

You can also download Winamp media player (for free) which will play these files. http://www.winamp.com

I'm soooo anxious to hear Danks' press conference in its' entirety. I did hear a little of it on one of the news stations 5:00 report..not sure which one because I was flipping back and forth, but I think it was WJTV.

Sounded to me like Danks is trying to spin this for all it's worth!! Something about how so many other criminals couldn't be prosecuted quickly due to lack of man power, etc,. Yet the Mayor gets prosecuted so quickly. He then said something about political agendas being involved.

Puuulease!! First of all, Mr. Danks, this investigation has gone on for 2 weeks. Secondly, Melton's THE MAYOR!! If he has broken the law it SHOULD be given top priority.

Stokes was also interviewed and continuing with his ongoing spin that FM was just doing his job, and the Ridgeway home was a 'known' crack house. ...I would think that if Stokes' ward is so chock full of crack houses, Melton should have at least been able to find one to sledgehammer that HAD CRACK IN IT!

These spins are nauseating! But you know there will be folks that believe them. AHHHHHHHHH!!

I'm really sorry to report that Adam hasn't gone digital, yet, and his recording is on regular ole cassette. He was the one who had to shlep to Ridgeland for Danks' press conference. (Anyone else notice the irony there?)

If I was there, I'd dash over to y'all and use one of my laptops to record the audio to the hard drive using Audacity. Then it would be a simple matter to convert it to MP3 and put it up. (All you have to do is use an audio cable to plug a cassette player into the computer's microphone input...you just have to be sure you don't accidentally plug into the computer's speaker out port instead. *blush* Been there, done that.)

And yes, that is some rich irony there.

Best,
Tim

Yeah, yeah. Todd just told me he can do this somehow. That sh!t is above my pay grade. Hang tight. We'll have Danks in living color soon.

OK, they tell me Adam took the tape home. So y'all might have to wait until Monday to hear it. Sorry.

OOPS! :-)

Well, I can't say a word about Adam's old-fashioned cassette recording. I'm still on dial-up so it would take me a couple of hours to download it anyway.

Hey, none of us can say a word. Adam may be set in his ways—but "his ways" broke this story in Jackson and brought us to this point. Just show that good journalism isn't about cutting-edge technology. It's about legwork and tenacity. (And the poor guy is dragging around that hurt leg, to boot!)

Anyway, we're very proud of Adam and our whole staff. Brian Johnson, Natalie Collier, Jaro Vacek, Kate Medley, Pat Butler, Darren Schwindaman, Melishia Grayson (who am I missing?) have all made the JFP's Melton coverage what it's been. Oh, and Todd Stauffer with those award-winning columns slamming the mainstream media's (past) bad coverage of him and crime sensationalism, not to mention Todd's support of all us every step of the way. OK, I'm getting vaklempt. I'm out. Peace, y'all. Have a wonderful week, and say a prayer for our wonderful city. We'll come out better on the other end if we stand together.
