College football opens this week and even if some games have been pushed to Saturday most teams are playing. Games start on Thursday and will go all the way to Monday as college football gets the whole weekend with the NFL waiting in the wings to start its season next Wednesday night.
So, do you want winners? Do you want to know who is going to win? Do you just want reasons to tweet me or comment on this post about how wrong I am?
Well, here you go, I pick the winners to this week’s games:
Mississippi schools
Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Jackson State Tigers
JSU will need a perfect game and need MSU to help them with turnovers and stupid mistakes. Bulldogs should win this game and pull away in the second half because of more depth and talent.
MSU 49 JSU 23
Ole Miss Rebels vs. Central Arkansas Bears
Rebels should have no problems with the Bears. It will be a long season if Ole Miss loses this game to Central Arkansas but I don’t see that happening.
Ole Miss should have enough talent and depth to win this game with ease. The Hugh Freeze era opens with a win. I remember Jacksonville State a couple of years ago, so don’t sleep on FCS schools pulling upsets and Central Arkansas is ranked in the FCS top 25.
Ole Miss 35 Central Arkansas 17
Southern Miss vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Golden Eagles hit the road to start the college football season against one of the big boys. Nebraska feels like they are a contender in the Big Ten and want to make a statement early.
USM will need help from Nebraska to win this game. Cornhuskers will face a Golden Eagles’ team breaking in a new quarterback and new coach.
Nebraska 28 USM 17
Alcorn State Braves vs. Grambling State Tigers
Alcorn State is full of unknowns with a new coach and a bit of rebuilding project. Grambling State is considered a contender in the SWAC West division.
GSU 35 ASU 21
Mississippi Valley State vs. Concordia College
No question this game have a MVSU win written all over it.
MSVU 49 Concordia College 14
Delta State Statesmen vs. Fort Valley State University
DSU starts the season with a new quarterback and coach but starts at home with stockpiled talent. Statesmen should make Fort Valley State fear the Okra.
DSU 28 FVSU 21
Millsaps Majors vs. Mississippi College Choctaws
The “Backyard Brawl” has moved from Thursday to Saturday. This is two teams who want to beat the other for bragging rights for the rest of the year. There is nothing like starting your season with a major rival.
Millsaps 24 MC 21
Belhaven Blazers vs. University of the Cumberlands (KY)
Blazers hit the road to face a team ranked in the NAIA poll. Belhaven will have to play above themselves and get just a little help to pull out this game.
Cumberlands 31 Belhaven 17
Hinds Community College Eagles vs. Mississippi Delta Community College
HCC 35 Delta 14
Holmes Community College Bulldogs vs. Jones County Junior College
Jones 21 Holmes 17
Best college football games of week one (starting with Thursday’s games)
South Carolina 21 Vanderbilt 10 (Upset maybe but is Vandy ready for primetime, no)
BYU 35 Washington State 3
UCLA 17 Rice 14
Villanova 24 Temple 14 (my FCS upset of FBS of the week)
Tennessee 38 North Carolina State 21
Michigan State 42 Boise State 14
Navy 28 Notre Dame 24
Penn State 17 Ohio 14
Appalachian State 24 East Carolina 17 (2nd FCS upset of a FBS team)
Richmond 14 Virginia 13 (3rd FCS Upset, I have to get one right don’t I)
Boston College 23 Miami (FL) 21
Colorado State 24 Colorado 22
Auburn 38 Clemson 21
USC 35 Hawaii 17
Alabama 42 Michigan 28
Louisville 24 Kentucky 17
Virginia Tech 27 Georgia Tech 21**

I just hope Ole Miss doesn't get confused when they're playing another team called the Bears. :)
