Regional picks, new releases, and housekeeping...

Housekeeping first: The listing that got printed in this week's issue for Saturday (9/21) at Underground 119 is misleading, so allow me to correct it. The YMCA Fundraiser is an event being held outside. Fearless Four will play inside at 9 p.m, with the regular $10 cover. Two separate events. Hope that clears that up.

Here are a few shows happening outside of the Jackson area this week:

9/20 - The Blind Boys of Alabama at The Germantown Performing Arts Centre in Germantown, TN. 9/20 - Widespread Panic at Sowden Grove Ampitheater in Southaven. 9/21 - Cheap Trick at Horshoe Casino in Bossier City, LA.

Safe traveling to those folks who try to make these shows.

NPR has a first listen for Scottish electro-pop group Chvrches and their newest called The Bones of What You Believe. Check it out http://www.npr.org/2013/09/15/221714011/first-listen-chvrches-the-bones-of-what-you-believe">here. (Thanks to Mo Wilson for the heads up on this.)

I already told you all about the new Elvis Costello/Roots collaboration last week. But there's lots of other new releases this week. Here's the rundown of a select few:

MGMT - MGMT (indie pop) Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit (modern jazz vocals) Crystal Stilts - Nature Noir (alternative/indie rock) The Dirtbombs - Ooey Gooey Chewy Ka-Blooey! (alternative/indie rock) Windhand - Soma (heavy metal) LAKE - The World is Real (indie pop) John Paul Keith - Memphis Circa 3AM (alt-country) San Fermin - San Fermin (indie rock) Royal Bangs - Brass (alternative/indie rock) Carcass - Surgical Steal (death metal)

Happy listening, kids...
