Updated: Openings, Closings in Metro Jackson; Blues Marathon Cancelled

Jackson woke up this morning to low temperatures—it's still just 25 degrees outside—and projections that the temps won't get above freezing. That's means the roads will continue to be icy and dangerous, at least in patches.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation posted at 9 a.m. today that crews have been working through the night on icy roadways in and around Jackson, but that they remain treacherous today:

Roadways throughout the Jackson remain frozen and unsafe. MDOT crews and are resources from around the state are being dispatched to Jackson to assist stranded motorists and work to de-ice interstates and roadways. MDOT advises motorists to avoid driving until road conditions improve. Follow MDOT on www.MDOTtraffic.com or on Twitter @MississippiDOT for updates on when roadways are safe and passable.

It is also reporting numerous accidents including a big-wheeler that turned over on Interstate 55 near Fortification Street.

The Mississippi Blues Marathon was also cancelled due to ice conditions.

The Jackson Zoo has announced that it remains closed today; the Mississippi Museum of Art opened at noon.

Brents Drugs, Broad Street Bakery, Babalu Fondren, Fleet Feet, Highland Village (with some stores closed), Kathryn's, Ole Tavern on George Street, The Manship and LD's Beer Run have reported they are open via Twiitter.

Mississippi Children's Museum, Maison-Weiss, Miskelly's, Sleep Stores, and Blithe & Vine are among those in our feed who have reported they're closed on Saturday.
