Bluntson, Tillman Upset Council Incumbents

Yesterday, with very small turn-outs, two challengers defeated the City Council incumbents in a run-off election for Wards 4 and 5. In Ward 4, eight-year Councilman Bo Brown was defeated by challenger Frank Bluntson by an overwhelming margin. In Ward 5, Charles Tillman defeated Bettye Dagner-Cook in a closer race.

So there was a small turnout, which means the candidates were unable to motivate more voters to go to the polls.
Since Councilman Stokes wasn't defeated, Bo Brown's defeat was about the next best thing.
How could Ms. Dagner-Cook have lost, since she single-handedly saved Jackson from cigarette smoke?
That's gratitude for you.

Methinks it's going to surprise some folks coming up where allegiances are actually going to crop up in the city. But let's let that unfold naturally. The drama should be quite exciting.

If memory serves correct, this means that the city's media endorsements this year worked out like this:

Clarion-Ledger won Melton, McL, Crisler, Barrett-Simon.
Jackson Advocate won Melton, Stokes, Bluntson, Tillman.
JFP won McLemore, Crisler, Barrett-Simon, Stokes.

It's kinda funny how it shook out when you think about it.
