Whitlow Newsletter 13 - 26 days left!

26 days left until the general election on June 7th! Point Of Order: We look forward to a debate with the Democrat nominee sometime soon. We will keep you informed as one or more of the media outlets, the League of Women Voters, or some other politically interested group steps forward to sponsor a much needed debate.

Leadership Matters: Focus is now on the June 7th general election. Over the next few weeks, I will be concentrating on the many critical issues facing the city of Jackson. We have enough votes from citizens in this city, Independent, Democrat and Republican, who want positive change to win this election. Together we can do better for the city of Jackson and the entire metro area. So prepare for a big victory on June 7th. Let's make some history together. With your help we can make it happen.

LEADERSHIP MATTERS.

A Jackson resident, on the campaign trail, succinctly offered a straightforward approach to move the city forward. He said, “If I owned a restaurant and wanted to increase my revenue, would I go out and grab people off the street and tell them "you must eat here and you must eat whatever I put in front of you"? Of course not, I would improve my menu and my services so that people would want to come into my establishment. That is what the City of Jackson needs to do. Improve the quality of the services and the menu (opportunities) so that people will desire to visit, locate businesses and live in the city. When people want to live someplace there is an increased demand for housing and other services. Tax revenues will increase and the city will have areas begging to become part of the progress.” He is right, we must improve our quality of life offerings by providing a safe community, jobs through economic development, affordable housing, community revitalization, quality education, and racial reconciliation. I will continue to listen to the voters to formulate solutions. As we involve citizens in the process of solving problems, the pride of ownership in the City’s image and development will return.

Support: Fund raising is always difficult in elections. This one is no exception. We need and appreciate your continued and generous financial support to be prepared for the general election campaign. At this point in the campaign, we need your help more than ever. You can make a secure donation online at www.rickwhitlowformayor.com or by mail to Post Office Box 1202, Jackson, MS 39215. Checks should be made payable to the Committee to Elect Rick Whitlow.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We are building a strong volunteer force. Keep those sign-ups coming! The campaign office is located at 612 N. State Street (The Ewing Building). Call 601-214-3702; 601-944-0264; 601-354-0460; 601-927-3688 to get involved.

Don’t forget to write a letter to the editor or call a radio talk show to show your support for Rick’s candidacy. It is a great way to reach a large number of voters with a very short statement. Watch for the unscientific polls on each of the blog sites and the local TV stations to make your vote count.

Trailbits:

Rick is working hard on the Campaign trail, so if you see him out and about, don’t hesitate to talk to him, share your concerns, your ideas for solutions or just say hello.

I like the part about calling the shows and visiting the blogs! He seems really inclusive and ready to discuss the issues. Will there be a debate? I think we need one, so I hope some of those groups will host one. WAPT may want to get back what they lost when Melton/Johnson didn't debate again. I want to see more of both candidates; but, I guess all this "new chief" talk will get in the way. sigh

Yes, Mr. Whitlow is being very approachable. I'm impressed with his openness so far, and he seems willing to be specific. There's something refreshing about him.

Doesn't this conflict with his "zero tolerance" reduce-crime-before-anything else-can-happen statements?
