JFP Writers to Blog about Mayoral Candidates

April 3, 2005—In addition to the JFP's unprecedented Truth Watch blog for local campaigns, and our detailed City Elections Blog to help readers stay focused on issues, JFP correspondents are going to blog about the individual mayoral candidates for the remaining weeks until the Democratic primary and then through the general election. Blogging on individual candidates will begin this week.

That is, on each of the mayoral candidate pages, our bloggers will post pertinent links and bits of information about the candidate, their appearance schedule and news—from small to large—emanating from their campaigns. We will also post questions for other bloggers that arise as the campaigns unfold. We hope that this blogging effort will further facilitate real discussion in the city campaigns and help keep them focused on issues, rather than rhetoric and sound bites.

We need your help, though. Please continue to send up information, details, e-mails, campaign mailers and other information you receive. As we said when we launched Truth Watch, we will accept information from anonymous sources—however, we must be able to confirm the accuracy of the materials before posting. We believe that allowing readers to anonymously share information that is of interest to the general public is vital to openness in government; however, we believe that information should be responsibly factchecked before presented as fact.

Most importantly, keep an eye on the Elections Blog for daily blog entries about the mayoral candidates and then share your comments.
