Democratic Club to Host Mayoral Forum - April 9

[verbatim] April 1, 2005—A forum of the three Democratic candidates for Mayor of the City of Jackson will be hosted by the Mississippi Democratic Club at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 9, 2005, in Woodworth Chapel on the campus of TOUGALOO COLLEGE. Confirmations have been received from Mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr. and Anell Vaughn-Smith. We hope to receive confirmation from Frank Melton shortly.

Each candidate will deliver a brief address and then answer questions delivered by our program moderators. Some of the questions will be generated from the audience, and others will be prepared questions.

Tougaloo College is located at 500 West County Line Road. The main gate is approximately 1/4 mi. west of North State Street on the north side of County Line Road. The guard on duty will direct you to the Chapel and parking.

The MS Democratic Club was recently incorporated with the Secretary of State’s office as a non-profit organization. Its mission statement follows:

It is the mission of the Mississippi Democratic Club to encourage participation in the democratic process in order to help build good government for all people who call Mississippi home. Toward that end, the Mississippi Democratic Club will engage in various activities, including but not limited to: grassroots outreach, education, support of legislation, and endorsement of Democratic candidates. In addition, the Mississippi Democratic Club seeks to promote lively discussion, good will and fellowship among all Democrats.

Further, because the Mississippi Democratic Club defines good government as government of the People, by the People and for the People, and because the Mississippi Democratic Club embraces unreservedly the American traditions of fundamental fairness, due process of law, and respect for the dignity and inherent worth of every individual, the Mississippi Democratic Club is committed to the just enforcement of the rights and privileges guaranteed citizens under the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.
