Synarus Green, currently the director of policy and intergovernmental affairs for the City of Jackson, is imminently qualified for higher office, with remarkably extensive experience in public policy, education, criminal justice, and legislative priorities on the national, state and local level.

We encourage registered votes in Mississippi House District 72 to vote for Synarus Green in Tuesday's run-off special election.

Green is the son of Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Tomie Green and the late Cornelius Green Jr., who was a retired financial analyst. Green attended public schools in Jackson and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in criminal science and a master's in education from Jackson State University. He also has an MBA from Millsaps College.

Green went first into law enforcement as part of the Federal COPS program, there he graduated with honors and was placed with the Hattiesburg Police Department, where he rose to sergeant over a 10-year career as a patrolman, detective, public information officer, trainer and as a negotiator for the Special Tactics and Rescue team.

In 2010, he moved to Washington, D.C., as a professional staffer to the Committee on Homeland Security; later he was promoted to legislative aide for U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, working with members of Congress and the Obama administration.

He returned to Jackson as the chief administrative officer of the Chokwe Lumumba administration, staying on when Tony Yarber took over after Lumumba's death.

Green is well-educated, even-tempered, connected and has worked hard to build a career in public service. During this campaign, he has impressed us by both by his grasp of issues vital to the state and especially the capital city, and has shown the willingness to reach out across many lines and work with a wide variety of people. He deserves your vote.

Vote Tuesday if you live in District 72. (Map here.) Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
