JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The challenger in a Mississippi Supreme Court race says the current office-holder disagrees too often with other justices.
State Court of Appeals Judge Kenny Griffis of Ridgeland is trying to unseat Justice Jim Kitchens of Crystal Springs in the Nov. 8 election.
Griffis said Thursday that Kitchens "disagrees with his colleagues a lot." Griffis says he would try to be a consensus builder.
Kitchens says if everybody thought alike, the state would only need a one-person Supreme Court.
The candidates spoke at a press forum in Jackson. They are running in a 22-county district in the central part of the state.
Mississippi justices are elected for eight-year terms.
The 73-year-old Kitchens is seeking a second term. Griffis, who is 55, has served 14 years on the Court of Appeals.
